In place of conventional exterior mirrors, a digital camera system is seamlessly integrated into the body design on both sides of the bus. Two displays in the cockpit assume the function of the conventional rear-view mirrors and display the vehicle environment in real time. Because the system uses a close-range camera and a wide-angle camera on each side of the vehicle, the driver benefits from an extended field of view that goes beyond the legally required field of vision and supports safe driving with virtually no blind spots.
The display on the monitors in HD resolution is divided into four areas and enables a standard, wide-angle or zoom view depending on the driving situation. In addition, reference and guide lines facilitate orientation in the image. They help the driver better assess distances and vehicle dimensions and can be individually adapted to the respective vehicle.
Another advantage over classic mirrors: With MAN OptiView, interference such as raindrops, dirt or vibrations are automatically reduced and brightness and contrast are optimised. At the same time, the display adapts to different light and weather conditions so that the traffic situation remains easily recognisable even at dusk, at night or in unfavourable conditions.
Another added benefit: The digital camera system requires significantly less space on the body than conventional mirrors. This improves aerodynamics, which contributes to reduced wind noise and more efficient driving. In addition, the direct field of view through the side windows is extended, allowing potential hazard areas around the coach to be identified even more effectively.
